How
Important are your Photographs?
Do you have many precious photographs & video clips stored on your
Computer?
Do you regularly make back up copies of your most precious pictures
& videos?
Did you know that computer Hard Disks are 99% reliable... but 100%
guaranteed to fail one day? They are mechanical devices, extremely
sensitive and like all mechanical devices - They Will Fail!
Every week
I see a failed Hard Disk in my workshop.
Many of
these disks contain the only copies of their owners precious
photographs.
They may
have been happily looking at these pictures & videos for many years
- then suddenly Nothing!
Often I am
able to retrieve the pictures - Often I am not.
What If -
a pipe bursts above or close to your computer, the computer, back up
disk, CD's or DVD backups (assuming you have them) are all water
damaged? Insurance of course will replace the hardware but the precious
pictures & memories may be lost.
How many
of those who do make copies actually store the copies somewhere other
than their home? (Imagine the water scenario & replace water with
fire)!
All of the above have been a concern &
challenge to me when working with the precious photographs of my
clients.
There is now I believe a very good, efficient and most of all
simple solution to this problem. There are free programs that will
enable safe, secure & very simple backup of photos using the mighty
army of Google computers & hard disks! (Make your Broad Band
connection work for you)
It
is Safe, Secure & only YOU get access. But another benefit is that
this system makes sharing pictures with others much easier if you
choose to do so.
This
is now the only system i use to store my
4000 + (& growing) collection of precious pictures & video
clips of my family & other not to be lost memories.
For
a lot of collections the storage is FREE. If your collection is very
large, then for just 5$ per year you can buy 20GB of storage, enough
space for more than 10,000 full resolution pictures taken with a five
megapixel camera. Since most people have less than 10 GB of photos this
is all you'd need.
I can visit, survey your storage requirements, advise &
set-up the system for you. (In most cases the survey & set-up could
be achieved within a 1 hour visit).
If you are not comfortable with storing backup copies for
your pictures on-line perhaps an additional storage, external or
(internal) hard drive with automated backup software installed &
set to take care of the process for you is another option?
Please take some time to consider how important your
photographs are to you. I seem to be the bearer of bad news with
regards to lost photos a lot more lately!

style.
This is fact gained from the experience of dealing with many
hundreds of local Bexhill Computer users.
Please Do Not Trust Your Hard Drive alone with your precious
memories!
