Celebrating 5 Years in business serving the computer users of Bexhill since May 2003 and 20 Years working professionally with computers 1988 - 2008

About Mark & Top Marks IT…

I have lived in Bexhill now since 2001, having moved from north Kent after redundancy from a 25 year mechanical engineering career, integrating computers to the workshop since 1988.

Soon I became involved in voluntary work, initially working as a basic IT instructor for local senior citizens, taking groups of six mature learners for 2-hour sessions three days per week. I found myself regularly asked to undertake 'one 2 one' private tuition, pc upgrades, maintenance etc. Keen to both find employment and continue to provide a service within the local community I have worked at building a reputation for assisting people with their computing problems at a fair & reasonable price.

In 2002, alarmed at the prices some of my customers were paying for 2nd hand computers that tended to be unreliable & beyond upgrade I started building modern spec. generic computers. This made use of my 25 odd years of practical engineering experience combined with further study in computer installation & maintenance at Hastings College in St. Leonards.

As well as the practical HCAT course I have studied with the Open University on various computing courses where I have picked up skills in web design and many aspects of everyday home computing.

Fortunately since 2003, I have been supported by Rother Homes who use my services for home & group tuition, upgrades, new system builds etc. And of course 70+ 2 hour group tuition sessions for the DDARA. More recently I have been able to add Bexhill & Rother CAB, SureStart Bexhill, Autopoint Hastings, Titch Photograpy, The Body Junction, Learning Link & Austins Cradles (Eastbourne) to my list of clients along with several other local small businesses.

I continue to build up a loyal group of local customers (Currently over 300 private repeat business clients) who's requirements vary from the occasional 'troubleshooting' visit to fix an annoying problem, to regular or 'block' tuition sessions. So often I find people who have been sold a whole computer system complete with printer, scanner, camera etc. only to be told to telephone an expensive helpline for assistance when things do not behave as they should!

In 2006 I moved the business to a purpose built office & workshop, the new premises have enabled an expansion in the new build, repair & refurbished computer side of the services available with a record number of new systems built, delivered  & installed. Many including my customary follow up tuition sessions.

With my tuition I like to attempt to pass on the skills that I’ve acquired to others with an interest or need to learn more in jargon free, plain English lessons. My technical clients appear to appreciate a 'richness' of service where old-fashioned customer care wins over quantity of sales.
